Kitchens is a food-planning app designed to help you save and organize recipes, plan your meals, manage your kitchen and pantry, and get AI-powered cooking assistance. We're a small team that cares about your cooking experience and, by using our products, your privacy.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We've done our best to write it in plain language, because we want you to read and understand it. If you still have questions after reading, reach out at support@kitchens-app.com.
By using the Kitchens app or website, you agree to this Privacy Policy.
1. Information We Collect
Information You Give Us
When you create a Kitchens account, we collect:
- Account details: your name, username, email address, and password.
- Profile info: an optional profile photo and bio that may be publicly visible.
- Recipes and content: recipes you create, import, or save; notes, ratings, and other content you add.
- Meal plans and pantry data: your meal plans, shopping lists, and kitchen or pantry inventory.
- AI interactions: messages and prompts you send to our AI cooking assistant. These are processed by OpenAI on our behalf — see "How We Share Your Information" for details.
- Support communications: messages you send us when you contact support or give feedback.
Information We Collect Automatically
When you use Kitchens, we automatically collect certain information:
- Usage data: which recipes you view, save, or cook; search queries; features you use; and how often you use the app.
- Device information: device model, operating system, app version, language, and time zone.
- Log data: IP address, access times, crash reports, and diagnostic information.
- Cookies and similar technologies: we and our service providers use cookies and similar tools to operate the app and analyze usage. You can manage cookie preferences through your device or browser settings.
- Session recordings: we use LogRocket to record user sessions (such as taps and screen interactions) to help us diagnose bugs and improve the app experience. Session recordings do not capture passwords or payment information.
Information From Third Parties
If you sign in using Apple or Google, we receive basic profile information from that service (such as your name, email address, and profile picture) as authorized by you. You can disconnect these integrations at any time in your account settings.
We use Auth0 to handle sign-in and keep your login secure. Auth0 processes your email address, name, and sign-in details on our behalf.
If you connect a third-party service (such as a grocery or delivery partner), we may receive information from that service to provide the connected feature.
Camera and Photos
We request permission to access your camera and photo library so you can upload photos of your meals and recipes. We only access your camera or photos when you explicitly choose to do so.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Kitchens app and its features.
- Personalize your experience — for example, suggesting recipes based on your tastes and what's in your kitchen.
- Power our AI cooking assistant, to respond to your questions and enhance your cooking experience.
- Send you app notifications, product updates, and—if you opt in—marketing emails.
- Process any purchases or subscriptions you make.
- Respond to your support requests and resolve issues.
- Monitor and improve the security and reliability of the app.
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.
We do not use your information to serve third-party advertisements within the app. We do not track your activity across other companies' apps or websites.
3. How We Share Your Information
With Other Kitchens Users
If your profile is set to public, your username, profile photo, and the recipes you choose to share may be visible to other Kitchens users. You can control your profile visibility at any time in Settings.
With Service Providers
We work with trusted third-party companies to help us operate Kitchens. These include providers for hosting and storage, payment processing, analytics, customer support, and email delivery. These partners are only permitted to use your information to perform services on our behalf and are bound by confidentiality obligations. Key service providers include: Amazon Web Services (AWS), which hosts our servers and stores your data and photos; Auth0, which handles sign-in; OpenAI, which processes messages and prompts sent to our AI cooking assistant in order to generate responses; and LogRocket, which provides session replay to help us diagnose and fix technical issues. All service providers are contractually required to protect your information to the same standard described in this Privacy Policy.
For Legal and Safety Reasons
We may share your information if we believe in good faith that doing so is necessary to: comply with applicable law or a valid legal process; protect the rights, safety, or property of Kitchens, our users, or the public; detect or prevent fraud or security issues; or respond to an emergency.
Business Transfers
If Kitchens is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any such change and your rights regarding your data.
Aggregate and De-identified Data
We may share aggregated or de-identified information — information that cannot reasonably be used to identify you — with partners and for research purposes. This data is not linked to any individual user.
We Do Not Sell Your Data
We do not sell your personal information to third parties. Period.
4. Third-Party Integrations
Kitchens may link to or integrate with third-party services, such as Instacart (grocery delivery) or recipe import tools. When you use these integrations, you're sharing information directly with those third parties under their own privacy policies. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party service you connect with through the app. Kitchens is not responsible for how third parties handle your data.
Some product links in recipes go to Amazon. Kitchens is an Amazon Associate, so we may earn a commission on qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you. Amazon handles anything you do on its site under its own privacy policy.
5. How Long We Keep Your Information
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with Kitchens. Specifically:
- Account information: retained until you delete your account.
- Recipes and content: retained as part of your account until deleted by you or upon account deletion.
- Usage and log data: typically retained for up to 24 months for analytics and security purposes.
- Legal and compliance holds: some data may be retained longer if required by law, to resolve disputes, or to enforce our agreements.
When you delete your account, it is removed from Kitchens right away. If you log back in within 14 days, your account is restored. After 14 days, we permanently delete your personal data, including your Kitchen, recipes, folders, comments and reviews. Aggregated and anonymized data derived from your use may be retained indefinitely.
